  1. It depends where you live, but you should call social services and request a referral for services from the department of developmental disabilities.  The person who has that disability would then be assessed by a social worker, and would be provided services that are appropriate for his/her age, (i.e.,  socialization therapy, assistance with applying for social security, help with advocating for him/her in school, help with making transition plans if he/she is close to adulthood and will need to find a job, housing, etc. . .).  Part of the services offered would also (especially for a young adult) include opportunities to socialize through groups, outings, etc. . .  In California, all these services are an entitlement for people diagnosed with severe aspergers or autism.  In California, you would need to reach the local "Regional Center."

    I hope this helps!

  2. Ask your school for groups in the area, go online to an organization like Autism speaks to see what might be around you.

You need to be aware however that not all groups are the same - ask questions to make sure that the people you interact with have students with similar needs - it's hard if your student is significantly impaired to network with those who are more on the Aspy end of the scale and vice versa.

  3. Check you local listings.  Call Social Services.  They may come up with a list of support groups.  Mental Health,Counseling Center should be able to help you out.

    Good Luck
