  1. in my opinion if you are in rome you should visit Vatican city and St Peters. Even if you are not religious it is an amazing place with various tours avaliable of you can just walk rouns by yourself.

In rome itself you have the spanish steps, which are great to sit on and watch the world go by. The via Condotti for the shops or the Piazza Navona for the restaurants, the fountains and the atmosphere.

That said Rome is incredibly busy, the traffic is a nightmare and there are tourist everywhere so to make your life easier use the metro system which consists of 2 lines and is very easy to use. The lines cross at the main train station in rome so all the sights are easily accessible.

    Enjoy

  2. We have just returned from Rome and we found that just stolling around you come across loads of amazing things which arent on the traditional tourist list. Take good walking shoes!

  3. no

  4. just becareful of the romanian pickpockets

  5. hi im an italian(i come from rome) teenager and i think that if u want see really rome u have to visit all the centre of the city!colosseo fontana di trevi vaticano pantheon via del corso via condotti via cola di rienzo piazza di spagna iazza navona piazza del popolo...there are too actration:P im sorry for the "rubbih" because the city is very "sporca"..im sorry for my english tooXDi love very much usa i there was been twice and i would live overthere! ciao a tutti vi adoro

  6. Most of the major tourist attractions are well worth a visit. My favorite of all the better-known attractions is the Pantheon. The Vatican Museum is also fascinating.

However, there are also a lot of lesser known, but interesting things in Rome. San Pietro in Vincoli displays the chains that St Peter was brought to Rome and the Moses of Michelangelo. Santa Maria Sopra Minerva near the Pantheon is worth a visit.

Some of the more obscure, but interesting, things are:

The view through the keyhole at the Consiglio di Malta on Aventine Hill. There's a picture here: http://www.theculturedtraveler.com/Archi... and others:

This is worth the effort to find (close to Circus Maximus) - relatively few do. This site give directions on how to find it: http://wikitravel.org/en/Rome/Aventino

The Crypt at Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini is also worth a visit if you're interested in seeing works of art made from the bones of .more than 4000 monks. http://www.cappucciniviaveneto.it/cappuc...

The Museum of the Souls of Purgatory is essentially a ghost museum.

Or you could go to the Pasta Museum or the Presepi (nativity scene) museum across the street from the forum. There's also a 2000+ year old pyramid but it's a little more out of the way.

I also like the Mouth of Truth.

  7. Check out some of the catacombes. They are very interesting, and not that heavily visited.

Also, just outside Rome, is Ostia Antica. It's a bit like Pompeii, but on a slightly smaller scale. It's absolutely fascinating, and almost completed deserted. You can get there using the Metro, and then an overground train.

And yes, watch out for pickpockets. They'll usually be children who come up to you holding a newspaper, pretending to be begging. Meanwhile, underneath the paper, they will have their hand in your bag, stealing your money.

  8. San Clemente - three level church that goes down to when it was pagan

Stroll around the ghetto and Trastevere - and eat at Sorella Margherita in the Ghetto

I also vote for the catacombs and the keyhole view of St Peters

    Campo di fiori is great

Eat at Al Moro near the Trevi fountain - have the lamb

Check out this article about the best gelato in Rome - I ate there and they are right!

Google Rome and travel on the New York Times website for lots of other great tips

    Buon viaggio!
