  1. there is nothing you can do about it..... my daughter is 16 days late and i went through the same thing...

  2. It depends on what state you live in.  I got my daughter in a early entrance exam for K, she has a 10/20 birthday, in Oregon.  She had to test in the 95th percentile and be judged emotionally stable enough to handle being the youngest in the class.  (She was one of 20 students testing, one other little girl and my daughter passed) We moved to Colorado the next year, here they don't have anything to circumvent that rule.  I would check worth your public schools and then look into private, which might be more flexible if your child can test well.  Have you looked into Waldorf and Montessori?

  3. My friend, who is just turned 12, got into 7th grade, now are all 13, and she just turned 12. Try a private school for kindergarden, then move to public if wanted. She may need to pass a certain test though, not that hard, im sure

  4. Why wouldn't you want her to wait?  The state that I live in is moving up the deadline by 6 weeks over the course of the next few years because so many children who start school young are having difficulties and being held back.

  5. The best way to handle this situation is speak first with the principal of the school your daughter would attend.  Openings are first filled with the children who meet the criteria, but if there are still openings, there may be a way for your daughter to go early.  It is possible she may not be ready academically or socially to go to kindergarten yet and one more extra year would be most beneficial to her and her long-range school success, which is ultimately most important when making a decision like this.

  6. Your daughter will have to wait until the following year. Sorry! My oldest daughter is 6 years old and she is in kindergarten because her birthday is the end of January. So your daughter will just be a little bit older than the rest of her class, but with any luck maybe there will be another child or two who is in the same situation with their b-day.

  7. Actually, most school districts will allow you to exempt your child.  Entrance is usually based on a screening that tries to determine the ability to perform well in kindergarten (maturity).  Since girls generally mature more quickly than boys, if you feel your daughter is ready based on maturity, they may consider it.  If she isn't ready, it doesn't matter how advanced she is academically.  She will just get frustrated.

All that said, Kindergarten is not required.  You can homeschool your child or enter her in Montessori school and she can go DIRECTLY INTO FIRST GRADE!  Only kindergarten has an actual cutoff for birthdate.

For my system, they will not allow any early entrants this year because of lack of space for normally eligible kindergarteners.

  8. Nope no loop holes. Sorry but if they break the rule for one person then they will have 100 other parents in there screaming.

It's not the worst thing in the world for them to wait one more year. My twins have an Oct. birthday and actually could have started (our date is Dec 31) but I kept them one more year and it was the best thing I ever did. Now they are 13 and they do awesome in school. It's better to be the older chld in school than the youngest.

  9. the older they are going the easier the work is for them. Don't push your child out of the nest too early. Enjoy this last year with her and know that she will do better at school next year. Why make it harder for her if it doesn't have to be

  10. Nothing you can do. They have to draw the line somewhere and if they bend the rule for some they'd have to do it for all. You can enroll her in a good preschool or tutoring place and maybe see about getting her to be able to skip kindergarten, but it may be hard to do.

  11. I agree with some of the other people, school is so demanding now, let you daughter wait a year!!  Every state is different but in some states the kids have to turn 6 by Jan. 1st of the next year. I think waiting is a good option. Although most kids sail through K, 1, and 2. things get a little harder in the higher grades and that is when some kids fail.  Schools set up these guidelines for a reason.
