Thoroughbreds can be palomino:

I don't think that there can be rules against a particular colour racing. Are there *any* palomino racehorses?

  1. Palomino is a colour of horse usually found in the USA. In the UK such horses are not thoroughbreds and so not racehorses. Therefore they can never be UK racehorses and I think the rules are similar in the States. They are very popular show horses

  2. Sure looks like a TB to me and a Palomino one to boot. First one I've ever seen and I've looked at thousands of Tbs and races and he is my first. I've spent 35 years around American TB tracks. It great to learn new things. Thanks

  3. TBS ARE not palominos

    only quarter horse's  are !

I think you guys need to study up on colors and racing rules

Their has been many greats in the quarter racing wold as Palominos ,, One was a super great

I know most all of them ,,,Not to many of them

But I feel That most people play it safe when they don't know the answer's

Lets see if you guess this one

My x brother in law trained him for a while at Los AL  so let s see if you remember him ?

he was ridden and worked out but a Black Jockey ??

TB,S DO NOT COME IN a palomino color some are albino ..

but very rare case's they have that gene ,,

very few Pals run and win period

  4. No I don't think so.  I used to ride a palomino horse called Shane way back in the 50's  He was owned by a group of people called Buster Sid and his sons and was used in films.

I think he was used if the film Richard The Third.

They lived in Potter Street, Harlow.

  5. I have never seen a palomino thoroughbred.  I'm guessing that thoroughbreds can't be palominos, so the racehorses in the big major stakes that you see on tv (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont...) won't be palominos.  However, I've seen Palomino quarter horses and there are races for them.  I've never seen a palomino race in them though.

Well, I guess TBs can be palominos!  But they're really rare.  I've never seen a TB palomino racehorse and that picture in that article is the only TB palomino I've ever seen!  I don't think their color will make them a good or bad racehorse though.

Good force: "But I feel That most people play it safe when they don't know the answer's"... after I said they didn't exist, this person added the article... and Horse And Hound is a pretty credible source for the horse world... I wasn't just playing it safe... I just assumed that the article was right and I must have been wrong and TBs must be able to be palomino.  I did a little bit of research just now and found that according to wikipedia, the thoroughbred can be palomino, but it's rare... but the jockey club does recognize it as a color.  I also found some pictures of palomino TB foals... very cute!

  6. i know the tb industry does dna testing to make sure that the bloodline is strictly tb.  if there is any mixture of any other breeds, they are disqualified from racing.  however, you do have quarter horses with tb blood in them so they will race faster.

  7. the great quarter horse at los alamitos :

    kaweah bar,,,,,,,jockey was bobby adair

that takes me back to when i was 8........

he was worked out by a black jockey......nolten patio
