Ever since i was little i have always had a stutter. When i was little it was seen as 'cute' and people just thought i would grow out of it, but i didn't. Going through schools was different like answering the register and simply inducing my self to other. When i went into secondary school i was scared that people would laugh and most of the time i couldn't handle any speaking situations. I have been to many speech theist and none of them can help me. I am now 15 and have a job and try and hide it as much as i can but this is really hard and upsetting for me. I was wondering if anyone out there who had a stutter could help me?

  1. Michael Bentine had this problem early in life for a very long time & look what a success he was!

If you want to read how he overcame it - try to get his Autobiography called The Reluctant Jester.

    Best wishes. UK

  2. B. O. running for president of the USA uses a teleprompter

consider it/ you maybe president someday...

your young enough and you get proper help you will grow out of it!

goodluck and turn it over to Gods help by a little prayer

    may God be with you

  3. Well, I have one helpful question for you? Do you stutter in your mind? See, when you organize your thoughts you know what you want to portray to others but you stutter when you come to speak. You should first:

Think before you speak, organize the sentence in your head and make sure you know what you want to say and then talk. Also, do not look at stuttering as such a bad thing, in most cases many intelligent people stutter because their mind is thinking way too fast for the person to verbalize those thoughts. So, slow down, think about what you want to say completely, then talk.

Once you have your thought organized completely and know what you want to say, try saying it in your head first.

    EXAMPLE

SITUATION: You are being introduced to new people at your job

THOUGHTS: There are new individuals, I want to tell them welcome to the work force and I also want to have a good first impression.

SAY IT IN YOUR HEAD: Hi, my name is ... it is very nice to meet you and welcome to your new second home. You will definitely like it here.

If none of this works for you, there are also many self help books that address the issue. Many people say that you are very shy and have no confidence, but I wanted to stray away from those two qualities and take a different path.

LASTLY, you did not stutter while asking this question, why? Because you organized the thought in your head, and knew what you wanted to say and you also had ample time to type it up. So, relax, take your time and think before you speak.

  4. I don't have a stutter hun, but I do get nervous & forget things, not the same though is it ?

You could try taking some deep breaths & try to relax a little ( easier said than done isn't it )

I've heard that hypnotherapy can help some people over come their problems, especially nervousness problems, but I don't know if it would be of any help to you hun. You could ask your parents what they think, explain how your speach impediment makes you feel, perhaps they might empathise with you & let you go try hypnotherapy.

It would be entirely up to your parents though, ask them hun, I don't know if there is a therapy center near to you, or even if you are old enough to under go the therapy if there were a center.

It's merely a suggestion & I've not tried it myself so I can't coment on the effectiveness of the therapy.

    Good Luck. X :-)
