  1. My daughter made me one of these for Mother's Day when she was in the 5th grade.  I proudly display it in the middle of my china cabinet for everyone to see.

    Photo Decoupage Plates

You can make a lovely plate for mom and dad with a photo of you on it. Every time they use it they'll be reminded of their anniversary of this specific year. This is a craft for kids that will give pleasure for many years to come.

This is what you will need:

    1 Clear glass plate

Wide mouth aluminum can, wide enough to rest the plate upside down on without the plate falling off

    A pair of crafts scissors

    Decoupage glue

    2 Sponge brushes

    White acrylic paint

Colored tissue paper in the colors of your choice

A photocopy of a photo of you, in a size that will fit on the bottom of the plate (it can rather be a little smaller than the plate than too big as you do not want to have to cut the photo to fit)

    White drawing paper

    A pencil

    Colored crayons or pencils

This is what you have to do:

Place the plate upside down on your white drawing paper.

With your pencil trace around the edge of the plate.

Now turn your plate the right way around and trace around the base of the plate. You should now have a strip traced the width of the border of the plate.

In this strip write the date and the year of their anniversary. Write with double lines so that you can color the letters in, in the different colors you choose.

Cut out the date to form a rounded strip that will fit onto the rim of the plate.

Now you place the plate upside down on the aluminum can.

Using your one sponge brush, paint the base of the plate with the decoupage glue.

Press your photo face down onto the base of the plate and smooth our all air bubbles with your fingers.

Tear the tissue paper into small pieces.

Using the same sponge brush paint the back rim of the plate with decoupage glue. Carefully press the date onto the back rim of the plate and smooth out all air bubbles with your fingers.

Press the torn pieces of tissue paper onto the back of the plate to cover all areas of the plate that is still empty.

Make sure that the pieces of tissue paper overlap. It does not matter if some pieces hang over the rim as these will be trimmed of later.

Now you have to let the plate dry for an hour.

When it is dry, trim away the extra paper from the edges.

Using the remaining sponge brush, paint the back of the plate with the white paint.

Make sure you cover the whole plate.

Now you have to let the plate dry for several hours.

Your plate is now ready to wrap.

Remember to tell them that this decorative plate must only be washed with a damp sponge and not to wash it in the dishwasher!

This craft may take a little more preparation but the end result is well worth the trouble.

    Hope this helps :0)

  2. How about a nice frame for a picture of them?  Take any old frame and spread jewel glue on it then press the frame down in a bunch of shiny seed or bugle beads (the tiny round ones or the ones shaped like little cylinders).  Silver or white or the colors of their wedding.  I would love it if my kids did that for me!

  3. Well, I don't know what type of computer you have, but does your computer have a dvd burner? And the program Windows Movie Maker? If so, you can scan pictures of your parents, from long ago all the way til recent times at the Wal Mart picture machine. You can put them on a disc and add them to Windows movie maker. You can then add songs and turn it into a nice slideshow for them to watch!
