La Réunion is a wonderful French island. My husband was born there and I've been there a couple of times.

It's winter now because the seasons are reversed.

there's the sea, of course, but there are also mountains so you can swim, surf and hike as well.

The food is delicious, the main dish is made of fish or meat served with rice and beans. Of course, it's also spicy !!!

You can also eat a lot of exotic tasty fruit.

People are extremely friendly. Most of them are mixed-blood. Their ancestors were white European, Chinese, African or Indian.

Réunion is an overseas départements of France located in the Indian Ocean about 130 miles south west of Mauritius. Which is to say its very close to being in the middle of nowhere.

The island is 39 miles long and 28 miles wide and has a total land area of 970 square miles. In other words its really rather small.

The economy is based on sugar plantations and tourism and the population is about 800,000.
