Question:

Does anyone know anything about Quail Breeding?!

I have got an aviary. I have 2 cockatiels and 3 quails (one female passed away a week ago, so I'm left with three). The cockatiels and quails get along fine, but I'm trying to breed my quails.

We got a tip from a breeder that if you put sawdust on the ground as well as compost, and hay/straw in the beds then that will encourage them to make nests in the beds not on the ground where the eggs get cold really quick!

We have been doing this for about a week, however they just aren't interested in sitting on their eggs. Please help!!

And also if they do sit on eggs, how long until i can take the eggs out to see if they're fertile, and if i do, will they still sit on the eggs after i put them back??

HELP!!!!!

  1. As for the incubation period of the eggs, it really depends on the species of quail that you have.  This site contains a useful quail incubation chart:

As for actually encouraging them to breed, you should give them a breeding box.  This would probably be better than simply giving them the materials needed to build a nest (although this wouldn't hurt).  Instead of building one, you might be better off buying one.
