Does anyone know anything about going from Navy to Coast Guard?

My hubby is getting honorably discharged as a corpsman in the Navy in September. He wants to become a health service technician in the Coast Guard. Do you think that he would be able to keep his rank? We have talked to a recruiter but they told that there is a new ORL (open rate list) coming out and that they cannot talk to anyone attempting to become active duty until Oct.1st....Does anyone know anything about this matter? Any advice and/or information would help. Thanks!

  1. The fiscal year is how recruiting offices work their quotas or "mission" for getting applicants.  The recruiter you spoke with may have already filled all quotas for this year, so they are pushing you off until they have slots available.

Or, they may just be p**p-heads...

Only a recruiter would be able to give you the info about keeping his rate (rank) after joining.  Perhaps get the phone number to a recruiter in another town and they may be able to help - or at least be more willing to help.
