I'm a single mom of 4 and I have a job. I have had some bad credit problems in the past and I don't know if I would even qualify for a house or have any idea how to go about applying to habitat. Does anyone know what are the requirements to get into the program and do I have to have good credit to get a house. all answers are appreciated.

  1. Dunno the specific requirements.

However I do know you have to put in "sweat equity" - meaning to you have to work on other people's homes in order to qualify to have other's "sweat equity" builders work on your home.

There's usually a lender involved, and by the time you qualify for that home, you've already cleaned up your credit to qualify for a loan.

Sorry I wasn't more assistance - I just wrote an article for a new (and deserving) homeowner years ago.

    Good luck!

  2. I dont think good credit is necessary = you go to the local Habitat office and start the application process there. Cant hurt to apply now can it.? good luck.

  3. homeowner qualifications may differ from location to location.  I have been volunteering at one in SC and found that they get help to clean up their credit and have to meet all kinds of qualifications.  They also have to work a certain number of hours on the building of their home (150 in SC I think).  Then once the house is built which takes about 4 months they are resonsible for the house payments to the bank.

It is just a program to get people into a home who would have been rejected under other  methods.

  4. Try the link below to see if you qualify.

It should tell you about a local Habitat for Humanity also.
