Does anyone know anything about second parent adoption in California to opposite s*x unmarried couples?

Does anyone have any information on second parent adoption? (adopting your partners child) My partner and I are not married and are not interested in getting married in the near future but he does want to adopt my son. My son's father has no parental rights or responsibilities and has never established a relationship with my son. My partner lives with me and is raising my son with me. We've been trying to find information on this but can only find info on second parent adoption for same s*x couples.

Any info or advice is appreciated.

I would think the same rule would apply for opposite s*x couples.  You might want to consult a lawyer for further info.

If you can't commit to this man--why on Earth would you make an innocent child commit to him?!

ETA:

Then why do you need a 'piece of paper' to prove he cares about the kid?  I couldn't care less if you marry or not, just leave the kid out of it.
