Ok I have a LOST speed demon II, It's 6'7'' x 19'' x 2.38

I'm 5'5 and 190Ibs. Ok when I am paddling and when I am balance well in a sright position, i can paddle but the board is still sinking; Also when I sit on it, it sinks. and when i try to stand on it, it complely sinks way down. Is this because I am a beginner or the board is to small for me in thickness. what would be the right weight for this board? Beause the stupied sales men recommend this board for me he said it was the right one for me, And I told him I am a beginner, I can't get my money back.

  1. I agree with everyone else that the dude at the shop was not cool - he didn't give you what you needed, only what he wanted to sell!

That being said the first thing I would do would be to get a long board, (at least 9'). You can get a used one from Craigslist or something...

The next thing I would do would be to learn how to surf on the long board. Here's a great article that I always recommend to beginners called 'Learn How to Surf in One Day':  http://www.beachtrading.com/learn-how-to...

Once you get it down then you can try your shortboard again... if you dig it then keep it... if not you can sell it.

Don't worry that it sinks... it needs to be moving like the other dude said... BUT that will make it MUCH harder to learn on so do yourself a favor and get a long board.

    Good luck.  :-)

  2. Every one so far has been spot on. In the old days the local surfboard shop was your buddy. they would not rip you off, But times have changed, unfortunately. Go to a different shop. Tell them your predicament and ask to part exchange the whiz stick for something more manageable. 7 Foot mini mal with lots of float. Or something like that.

Print off these answers and show the sales person. Also try to go to a family run shop, rather than a multi stored Establishment.

    Good Luck.

  3. Ussually a beginner would want a longboard i don't know why he wanted you to get that. Anyhow don't worry about it to much. Shortboards are harder to learn but lots of people learn on them. The board sinks because think of it like a wakeboard or ski, alone in the water they can't support your weight. Although while moving they can. A surfboard is like the same thing except bigger and less speed. Work on your paddling and try to surf the white wash first or small waves for practice. I don't think it's so much your weight in ratio to the size of the board. Sucks that he sold you a shortboard but its still able to learn on.

  4. my advice would be to sell your surfboard on like craigslist.com or ebay.com etc then use that money you should get some good money from it cause lost boards are good. also next time you purchase a board try to get one that has a round top instead of a point it will slow the board way down for you and foat way easier...final advice is to get something in the 7'2'' -8' range

  5. i learned on i giant old style board now its hanging on my wall but u might want to consider getting something like that it helped me but be  carefull not to hit anyone

  6. Yeah, the sales guy shouldn't have sold you a short board. Long boards are the best to learn on, but you'll still master it with practice. The board sinks, because there's a 'way' to use them, and they're fairy tricky. You'll learn in time.

  7. Stop whining

well i think that is your fault for not researching enough to know that you needed to get something about the size of a  tree for your first board. Plus if you weigh 190 pounds and your only 5'5, maybe you should work out or jog or something. It sinks because you are fat.

You should have known better then to buy it in the first place.

Here is what you need to do:

+Hang it on your wall, preferebly somewhere you will see it  everyday

+buy the biggest nastiest tanker you can find. The bigger board you ride now the better style you will have later on

+ Surf everyday. Before school after school. During Lunch...etc

+Use the shortboard as a goal you want to achieve.

Be ruthless in achieving your goal.

    and another thing:

Your not a local boy if you got ripped off at the surfshop so change your name to local Valley or something

  8. I totally agree with the very first dude. The salesperson shouldnt have sold you a shortboard but since you have it now you can make the best of it. Its going to take more work but eventually you will be able to ride it although alot of it has to do with the waves your riding. Dont feel bad if you dont get it at first. It will all fall into place.
