Question:

Does anyone know anything about the OOMA phone system?

At www.ooma.com there is a product that you buy for a one time purchase price and it gives you free phone access for the life of the product. They say you 'own your dial tone' by buying this product. It sounds too good to be true but I can't find anything bad or dishonest about what they are selling. It is relatively expensive, but if you don't have a phone bill ever again it is a very good deal. Has anyone bought this thing or know anyone who has? Does it actually exempt you from paying a phone bill at all? How is the quality of the voice/sound? Is it worth the $400, or whatever it costs? And basically would you recommend anyone buy this product?

Thanks!

  1. yes, Joe is right.....its just to much money for something you don't know anything about....if you want a cheap alternative then go with the MagicJack.com....!!

I got one in May, and its works great!! but remember, its more like a SIP provider  (Ymax)....so your computer gotta be on!!

I got another real VoIP provider, and I just use the MagicJack for a second line, in case some of my kids need to be on the phone for 2 hours....

the install is super easy and everything goes smooth....you also can take it with you while traveling....MJ has a softphone too, and all you have to do is use a cheap flip handheld phone !!

  2. sounds rather expensive, especially since you can get magic jack for $40 for the device and first year, then $20/year after that... it would take 14 years to spend $400 for magic jack service compared to this ooma service, will either company be around for that long? who knows, but why pay $400 for something that can be had for 10 times less then that??
