I live in So. Cal and last Friday my a/c unit which was 31 years old finally went out. We have had several bids to replace the a/c and heater its a split unit with gas furnace. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Kelvinator brand? I know they have been around for years making refridgerators but wasn't sure about their central a/c units. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. They cost a little less than a Carrier,York,Trane,or Rheem but have all the same warranties. They are an off model of one of the makes listed above.I can't remember which.I have installed many of them. They are a quality unit and are equivilent in price to a Ruud or a Goodman unit.

  2. As an Electrician I've hooked up quite a few of them around the virginia area and really never heard any complaints from the HVAC guys down there..

  3. A Nordyne product, lower end on the quality ladder.

We sell the same junk with a Tappan label.

I can't remember all the names they sell under, but there's a bunch of them.

I don't like it, but it's our "economy" line. We have had some problems with service valves, noise issues, hard to service issues, and petty stuff. We've only been selling it a couple years, so long term issues haven't come up yet.

If you can afford it, go with Rheem or Trane. Better quality!
