  1. In accordance with a study of the German university of  Trier ,  department of Ibero-Roman studies, the name Bonafilia  (that clearly comes from middle age Latin with the meaning of "good daughter" Bona= good, Filia= daughter ) has origins in Northern Spain (Navarra) or southern France ( Gascogne, the region of Cyrano and Aquitaine )  around the XI century .

The study is freely available here in PDF, but unluckily it is in Italian only (try to check if they have translation, because it is a quite detailed onomastic study) : http://www.uni-trier.de/fileadmin/fb3/AG...

    The document name is icos22ibro.pdf

Of course the exchanges between France Spain and Italy were extremely common (Just consider that the South of Italy was a possession of Spanish Bourbon, and the north of Italy was alternatively under Spain or France or Austro Hungarian Bourbon, or the French Savoy dinasty up to late19th century)

Gary: Bonfiglio is a typical Italian family name, quite diffused,  with clusters around Napoli. Bonafilia is a (quite ancient) given name from  Spain, which, in Europe, doesn't exist as family name.

So , either she is asking for a given name or it is a mistake of transcription of Bonfiglio (but family names have no gender and Luca and Andrea, ending with A are male names in Italian)

  2. You might try this link.  I didn't really know aht you were looking for.

  3. What would you like to know?  Pasquale came over here from Naples Italy.  He married a woman from Canada with a last name of Trembly.  They had 11 children before she died.  Patsy (his nickname) was a barber and died in Florida when he was 89.  He died before he was to be married for a 5th time I believe.

He spoke Italian, French, and 'not so good english'.

I don't know a whole lot more, but on my Grand-Fathers birth certificate, Patsy's last name was listed as Bonfiglio.  In Italian it is male if the name ends in an 'O' and female if it ends in an 'A'.

  4. Only that it is Italian in origin
