Is a family name from a quite small and formerly independent area on the Alps, Tirol , and more precisely from one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomite Alps (Val Gardena).

Tirol was , once upon a time, Austria. Nowadays is shared by Austria (Tyrol region) and Italy (Alto Adige, or Sud Tirolo)

Main cities: in Austria Innsbruck, in Italy Bozen/Bolzano, and Meran/Merano. They share culture and German  plus Ladin (an Alpine neolatin ) language

Is the land of the best apples in the world, small blond haired mountain horses (from the town of Hafling) , famous climbers (Mr Reinhold Messner was the first to climb all mountains higher than 8000 m, without use of oxygen) and beautiful castles .

A famous Trenker family comes from St Ulrich, now Ortisei, in Italy , a well known vacation resort (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Ulrich_... )  . Is the family of Luis (Alois Franz) Trenker one of the top German language movie directors,  and considered one of the fathers of cinema.
