Does anyone know exactly how bad the hurricane damage is?

My fiance is in the National Guard here in KY, and he was called out late Monday evening for disaster relief in Alabama and Louisiana. The guard is not saying how long he will be gone, and Im only catching very little info on the news. Is anyone close to Alabama or Louisiana that can tell me how bad it is there and what is expected from the two hurricanes yet to hit and where they are expected to hit. Im just wondering how long this may take, sinse we are not sure of a time frame. My fiance is very proud to be helping and so am I, but I already miss him, and I know this is a very important thing to be doing, I was just trying to get an idea of how bad things are there and maybe how long they would keep the National Guard out there. At this point, no one knows the full extent of the damage.

The good thing is that whatever the extent, it could have been a lot worse, they lucked out on this one.

For the idiot who said it was just a few thunderstorms: You probably have no idea what it is like to live after a Hurricane knocks out power to millions of people.  I have been feeding my family sandwiches for the last 2 days, as we sit at home in 95 degree weather with no A/C and no electricity.

I'm at work on my lunch break right now.  I ate a Snickers bar out of the snack machine, because every restaurant is closed and I didn't want to take food from home that my kids might need.

To the idiot that gave the first answer:  I didn't complain about the government.
