I have to find a good source of critical commentary for Memoirs of a Geisha by next wednesday (sept. 3 2008) for school. Does anyone know where to find one?

  1. Oh boy. I don't know of any books that are strictly critical commentary on Memoirs, but Mineko Iwasaki's book "Geisha, A Life" is a pretty good place to start learning more about the reality of geisha life as opposed to Arthur Golden's fantasy (you probably know this by now, but Memoirs is really not a good place to get information of what geisha and maiko are really like...). You might also want to look at the book review section of the Immortal Geisha website (http://www.immortalgeisha.com/) or even go to the forums and poke around a little (http://www.immortalgeisha.com/ig_bb/inde... There are book reviews floating around there too, but you might want to check with your teacher before using the site itself as a source of critical commentary. Not that the info is wrong, but depending on your teacher's standards it might not qualify as academic enough for your project.
