I really want to go to Costa Rica and teach english and learn spanish. When I search the internet, there are so many choices and so much information. I don't know what is the best to choose, or if I am missing other information. Anyone who has traveled to other countries and lived there and know the best way I can get information on staying in CR for 6months-1year, let me know! Thanks!

  1. I know someone who went to teach English in China.  She didn't know a l**k of Chinese before she went to teach there.  She said, after she taught the children the words in English, the tranlators sang the words to the kids in Chinese and had them repeat.  This is how she learned Chinese while she was there...for the 6mos-1year deal like you.  I know you said Costa Rica but if it worked for an English speaking person to learn Chinese, I'm sure Spanish is easier.  If you want to learn before you go, it's expensive ($200) but Rosetta Stone is fantastic.

  2. Try Universidad de Costa Rica @ San Ramon. That's where I went. It was a fun school, & they teach English there.

  3. You may wish to find out more from this teaching site http://teaching.mygeneralknowledge.com/ which will be able to give you a good idea of having a overseas teaching career or teaching English abroad.
