Question:

Does anyone know how Arizona's new law is working? The one that targets employers of illegal immigrants?

For some background, the Arizona legislature passed a bill late in 2007 that would punish employers of illegal immigrants. Essentially, businesses are prohibited from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and suspends or revokes the business licenses from those who do. The legislation was enacted at the beginning of 2008, and has recently been upheld in federal court.

There was talk of widespread illegal-immigrant migration elsewhere to other states or nations, fearing that they would no longer be employable in Arizona due to the new law (which was the entire point, I suppose).

I'm just interested in hearing from anyone who lives in the Southwest who can tell me how it's affected your life 7 months later.

Thanks, and vote American!

  1. Yeah great law. But like everything else where hiring illegals is concerned it's got flaws. The major one being it only applies to illegals hired after Jan. 01,08. Any illegal hired before that the company isn't responsible for hiring illegally. It also included the word KNOWINGLY which is like the Don't ask Don't tell provision for the military. It'll scare some small business but not the large ones with lawyers.

  2. It's working! We have definitely seen a reduction in the number of illegals living here. While we still have a long way to go, it's improving.
