Does anyone know how I can apply for a lost birth cirtificate from Germany?

Mine was burned in a fire when I was younger but now I find I need it. Can anyone help?

  1. Try contacting a German Embassy and ask them, or do an on line search.


  2. Yes, you will need to contact the city registry of the city where you were born. It would be called "Buergerbuero" or even "Einwohnermeldeamt". What you want is called a "Geburtsurkunde". They keep these things on file indefinitely, and will give you yours, but there will be a fee, you'll be getting official copies with stamps, and you may need to provide ID by sending a certified copy of your passport or whatever you may have. Not a big deal. Good luck.

  3. I think I would start my search with foreign affairs. Ask them who to contact concerning public records?
