My mother has given me a piece of antique furniture which I need to get crated and shipped. I am about 3.5 hours away from my Mom. Do I contact a moving company, a shipping company? This is a very valuable piece of furniture. Thank you!

  1. Call a moving company and ask about INSURANCE. You may also want to call your homeowner's insurance and ask them about insuring the piece before it leaves. They may be able to tell you who can move it.

Or you could call a fine antique house and ask them how they ship and who they use.

But the utmost thing is the insurance. Make sure that piece is insured if it is that valuable. And with regard to homeowner's insurance, if it is that valuable, it will need a SEPARATE policy to cover it. Regular policies don't cover valuable items like that. Talk to your agent.

  2. If its going to be crated then I suggest calling Alliance Air Freight & Logistics. Yes they do ground shipping too. I used them to ship fragile things before in the past & they did a fantastic job. Their website is www.shipalliance.com
