  1. I have a Perception Carolina 13.5 with a rudder and love my sweet little boat.  I usually paddle on rivers and small lakes. (I wanted a lighter boat as I am female, often paddle alone and needed a boat I can get on/off my car rack by myself.)

It is my opinion that you would be happier with a longer boat.  My boat handles much better than the 12 ft model.  It is faster, more stable and has more features.

Is there a paddle shop where you could test paddle some different length boats?  That and thinking about how you want to use the boat may help you make a more informed decision.  Also check out the reviews on paddling.net

  2. Well your kayak is very much like mine except diffterent make and a little longer.  Perception is design for light touring, exploring beaches and maximum weight for this model is 200lbs (allow at least 50-75lbs for gear weight)

It will certainly work on flat, calm water.  I would read up more about your kayak and others to compare features and what you want.
