Question:

Does anyone know how cooks use the leftover shells (pods) of edamame?

I am told that in countries where the bean's been revered for thousands of years, they never throw out the husks/pods/shells because they use them for other .....well, that's my question - what do they use them for?

  1. they can be made into a stock, but usually just thrown away.


  2. My friend uses her empty edamame pods for composting & mulch.  I know the empty pods can also make great food for livestock & cattle.
