The Riviera Maya starts in the town of Punta Sam and technically runs all the way down the coast and terminates at the city of Chetumal at the Central American border. Cancun is part of the Riviera Maya, but almost everyone considers anything south of Cancun the Riviera.

Driving from one end of the Riviera Maya to the other takes about 3 1/2 hours. Along the route are the towns and cities that are making the Riviera Maya famous. Places like Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Xel-Ha, Akumal, and many others. In the near future, the country of Belize (which borders Mexico) is considering extending the Riviera into their country from the city of Corazal at the Belize/Mexican border to the town of Punta Gorda at the Belize/Guatemala border.

well the riviera maya is all wht isnt a city along the highway that goes fron cancun to playa del carmen, mainly, so it would b better that u specify which hotel or beach u wanna go .... fron cancuns airport 2 playa del carmen is 1 hr.
