We are travelling in september to victoria landing at avalon and getting a hire car to drive along the great ocean road to Port Cambell were the 12 apostles are. Someone said it takes about 3 hours to drive from avalon inland to colac then to post cambell. We have a 18month old so I don't want to driving all day. Or does anyone have any websites they know of that can calculate distances and time to I can do a precise itinerary for our holiday. And any other info you may like to tell me about I have not thought of???

thank you

  1. the best website at the moment is whereis.com.au type in your start destination to your final destination. this will give you an approx time of how long, how many k's or miles, and yeah. this site is the BOMB. very good site.

  2. Yes, it is about 3 hours along the Great Ocean Road, maybe a little bit more. Try whereis.com, it's great at calculating times etc. I have to say though, that it is well worth the trip. From where I live in Melbourne, it took five hours to get there on a dingy old school bus with all my rowdy classmates and it was still worth it. The McDonalds in Colac is the classic pitstop for the journey but there are little viewing points on the Great Ocean Road that you can stop in at for a rest too. You can go inland but I'm not sure how good that is compared to the GOR

  3. www.travelmate.com.au

is a great distance calculating  / time   website

it even offers places of interest, accomodation, tours etc

its a great site for the tourist or the family group that would like that weekend get away

yes your friend is correct , it will take about 3 hours to go via the great ocean road to the 12 apostles.  So take your time, drive safe.

    cheers

  4. You would actually drive to Geelong and then to Torquay and along great ocean road to Apollo Bay then across through Cape Otway to Port Campbell.

I would suggest you would need to allow about 5 hours with stops and sight seeing.

Have a look at http://maps.google.com.au/ but make sure you tweak route to go via the great ocen road.

You could also look at the Tourism Victoria website for additional suggestions as to what is in that area.
