  1. Joe Lewis also said that Bruce with his speed and power could have been a world class boxer. Joe lewis seems to contradict himself alot. If Bruce was not a fighter why would guys like Joe Lewis, Mike Stone, and Chuck Norris waste time with him. No Bruce did not have professional fights. He has a long record of street fights in Hong Kong.I would rather be able to defend myself in the street for my life than some trophy. Just because someone can fight in a ring with rules does not mean they can fight in the streets. All of Bruce Lees students including Chuck Norris speak of him in awe, and have no doubt of his skill. In my opinion Joe Lewis is jealous. Whether its because he turned down the role in "Return of the Dragon" or whatever I dont know. All of you people who say Bruce couldnt do this or that, ask his fellow students. The ones who arent jealous or have a monstrous ego. I am sure they will tell you of Bruce Lees ability.

  2. A corpse can't weight lift. (Just as funny as seeing these questions over and over)

Edit- He is only a legend to some people, a lot of whom cannot think for themselves, and jsut parrot what he said. Yes he was a very good martial artist, no one will deny that, and he did have quite an influence, but there have been many who were far superior martial artists, that just didn't have the exposure to the masses that he did, and haven't had all of the tall tales made up about them that he did. Such as he would dominate in the UFC, even though he was 20-30lbs lighter then the lightest weight division.

As far as being one of the most inspirational people of the 20th century, I guess that depends on who you are and how you feel, because he does not even make my top 100.

Edit- Another brainwashed Bruce it...sigh. Beleive what you want to, because nothing anyone says will change your mind, but there have been many people that were better then Bruce lee.

    As for his fighting record:

    http://www.bruceleedivinewind.com/joelew...

This is an interview with Joe Lewis, who trained with Bruce.

    Sample

DW Forum - Can you tell a bit us of your training days with Bruce Lee & Bob Wall? How many training sessions in total did you have with Bruce & over that period of time? What is your opinion of Bruce as a fighter? Would he have been able to go 10 or 12 rounds with someone such as yourself or Chuck Norris? It is rumoured that Bruce Lee & Chuck Norris had a sparing session in that Chuck Norris was left red-faced. I assume this to mean he lost and was embarassed. Do you know ot have you anything about this ? Is there any truth in it. Can you tell us about the incident where Bruce kept teasing you about kicking a girl sized bag (Becuase you kept busting 100lb bags with your kicks). And you guys (Bob wall etc) made him a man sized bag (300lb). Did you ever meet or have a chance to talk to Jim Kelly ?

Joe Lewis - I learn fast. I made black belt in one year in Okinawa in three different styles. I am a fast learning. I can get all your stuff in a matter of weeks, and I mean anybody who can fight. I worked with Bruce less than two years before we grew apart. We used to work together for 6 to 8 hours at a time. I would be at his house at one in the afternoon, and not leave until maybe ten that night. Is that one lesson? Bruce was not a fighter. He was an actor and a teacher. He was a great teacher.

As for his professional fighting record i was unable to find any verifiable statistics. By all means please provide official statistics, with proof and not just what someone said or what has been pulled from 20 different sources and I will appolagize.

Thumbs down don't matter to me, so go ahead.

Edit- Wikipedia is not a credible source, hence the reason most schools do not let students use it as a resource. All of the fights listed are either second hand accounts or unverifiable. I agree with Judo that you need to bring some reality back into it. If he was an inspiration to you, that's cool, but not every body feels the same, or beleives every claim or story about him. As far as my validity goes, maybe I do not spell so well or have excellent grammer and sentence structure, but my 18 years of training in the martial arts, and my exposure to many martial artists that were his equal or better, gives me all the validation I need to speak on this matter.

Hey judo how come you get thumbs up (I gave you one)and I get 4 thumbs down. Are you using that Chi again?

  3. OMG!!!!

Seriously if the Bruce Lee nutriding gets any more outrageous than this.... you are seriously deluded my friend...

"One of the most inspirational people of the 20th Century"?!!!!

    Are you smoking CRACK?

How about Henry Ford... who changed the entire transportation industry of the ENTIRE WORLD. The guy who invented assembly plants.. the AUTOMOBILE...Basically the inspiration for the entire industrial and technological advancement leap in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD...

Maybe that is too far reaching for you...

What about Martin Luther King Jr? Bruce Lee is more inspirational than MLK?

    Ghandi? Mother Theresea?

I mean you can go past spirutually inspirational people... let's go with Presidents..

Teddy Roosevelt? JFK (Depending on your politics) h**l how bout FDR, who created the Social Security, lead us through the Great Depression and  is the only US President to serve more than 2 terms. (again depending on your politics) What about Reagan who tolk Russia to tear down the Berlin Wall?

What about Nelson Mandela? What about the monks of Tibet? What about the uknown rebel who stood in front of tanks at Tiananmen Square?

h**l how bout Athlete's who inspired....

Muhammed Ali? Jesse Owens? Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods?

h**l how about inspirational Martial Artist? Mas Oyama, Jigaro Kano, Morihei Ueshiba, guys who were about more than just being movie stars. h**l for that matter Yip Man, who taught Bruce Lee his foundation in Martial Arts...

Seriously you need to rearrange your priorities if you think Bruce Lee is one of the most inspirational people of the 20th Century...

As far as his overhead press, why does it matter? The guy was very strong for his size, but more important is what you can do with it. Guys who lift weights for functional strength aren't in the numbers game. They are interested in getting stronger, not seeing "how much" they can put up.

There are a ton of books out there on Bruce's training regime, and judging by his frame, I think he worked more on pull ups and chin ups, then overhead presses, as he wasn't super huge in the shoulder area, and trap area.

Seriously... read some of the books on his training regime. Also you can check the Archives on Muscle and Fitness magazine as they had an article a few months back on his routine.

But first and foremost you might want to get over your insane hero worship of the guy, because it is obviously at an unhealthy level for you...

    EDIT FOR WTFNESS????!!!!

Have YOU seen any of his professional fights? Because HE NEVER HAD ANY!!!! Movies do not count!!!! The guy studied Martial Arts for a grand total of 19 years. You are saying he is a greater Martial Artist then someone like Masahiko Kimura? Who did coincidently beat many very skilled Martial Artists, including Helio Gracie...

You are out of your MIND! There isn't a single Iota of proof of ANY fight Bruce Lee was in, aside from heresay, and in those both sides disagree as to what happened. Joe Lewis (a pro kickboxer) who routinely trained with Bruce has said time and time again Bruce Lee wasn't a fighter, but was a great Martial Artist.

"besides if there were better martial artists, then surely they would have been discovered by now"

They have been... BECAUSE THEY FOUNDED STYLES THAT ARE TAUGHT THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

Jigaro Kano: Founder of Judo, probably one of the most prolific styles of Martial Arts in the world.

You can put Kimura here, since he defeated many different stylists in fights, and is considered one of the greatest Judokas ever.

Mas Oyama: Founder of Kyokushin Karate: Again, highly spread style from a much greater Martial Artist. Again who gained wide respect from beating many people, and putting on very impressive displays.

Yip Man: Bruce Lee's teacher, considered one of the greatest instructors and teachers of Wing Chun...

How about the Gracie's who took on all takers for many years in no holds barred tchallenge matches, defeating many many practioners of many styles, brought BJJ to the forefront of the Martial Arts community.

But let's not even end there...

How about Miyamoto Musashi, considered one of the greatest swordsmen and Martial Artists of all time. Wrote the Book of Five Rings, a book that is still relevant today on tactics, philosophy and strategy. They read this book at Westpoint and various military academies throughout the world..

Or how about even bigger Martial Arts movie stars?

Van Damme as crappy as he is, has sold and done more movies than Bruce Lee.

Jet Li has dwarfed Bruce Lee both in numbers of movies made, and how many they are sold, and in actual true Martial Arts accrediations (being that he is a known Chinese Wushu champ)

The same with Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan, Samo Heung, h**l Cynthia Rothrock has been in more movies that sold more than Bruce Lee.

Now let's take a look at people who are worldwide celebrities for their status as fighters. Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr. h**l now people who are becoming household names.

Fedor Emeilenko, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Anderson Silva, even Tito Ortiz...

Yes, tons of great Martial Artist are known out there and have been discovered. Bruce Lee is like Elvis, for some reason has this deluded following that makes the legend of him greater than who and what he actually did and accomplish.

You my friend, are WOEFULLY uninformed, and talking out of your r****m. Because Bruce Lee didn't have a single pro fight, much less one against other Great Martial Artist that he knocked out. There is no verifiable record of ANY of his fights, or even of him sparring. No video, no nothing.

So check your facts please. Please note Wikipedia isn't a source, also note the section with his record clearly that it lacks any references, or cites any sources.. and  (unknown) or (Kung Fu) fighter... all was clearly some made up record by a Bruce Lee fanatic.

  4. many of bruces' friends and students claim that bruce would strap on 80lbs of weight and would do 50 one pull ups (50 reps each arm) . give it try.

  5. Lol, I love of how you guys make a huge rant about how great Bruce Lee isn't. I hear what you guys are saying but both of you guys have failed to answer the freaking question.

From a standing position, Lee could hold a 125 lb (57 kg) barbell straight out. But Judomofo has a point. Don't be too concerned with these things. It's good to have a target, but don't waste your time trying to find these things out.
