Does anyone know how much a suitcase must weight for an inside U.S. flight from New york to Michigan?

It depends on whether you're checking it in or carrying it on.

It also depends on the airline.

But standard wait is normally 50 lbs for checked luggage and 40 lbs for carry on.  

Also, check your airline website.  They'll usually list what's acceptable for each baggage including size and weight limits.  And charges if they apply.
