I would be interested to know in percentage terms how this compares with now. If no-one knows perhaps they know how I can find out?

  1. EHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW FOR, ARE YOU LIVING IN THE PRE 20TH CENTURY

  2. Around the same percentage of the price was tax in`65. What people today don`t realise is that there was Purchase  Tax on products that was more than VAT is today. For example, tax on buying a new car was equivalent to a VAT rate of 42% against 17.5% today. In the `50s and `60s , the average weekly wage would buy 346 litres ,whereas today it will buy 500 litres, meaning that petrol is still 30% cheaper than 40 years ago. You shouldn`t start moaning until it reaches £1.70 per litre.
