  1. I would suggest a head gasket fault, although it may be something much more simple, such as thermostat failure.

If it's not losing or 'pressurising' the water (pressurised water systems will blow out steam or violently bubble when the expansion tank cap is loosened), it may just be lack of water, faulty thermostat, failed water pump or even just a faulty temperature sensor.

If it is losing or pressurising it's coolant, it's most likely a head gasket problem.

  2. Could be thermostat could be head gasket could be a cracked cylinder head could be a lot of other things so it's impossible to quantify without knowing which..

Prices would range from a few quid for a new fan belt up to several hundred quid for a replacement cylinder head.

I hope for your sake it's a new fan belt..

  3. all according what is wrong, it could be an airlock, thermostat, water pump, or head gasket

  4. You don't say where you are.

  5. the cheapest fix would be a thermostat if needed, but as others have indicated it could be a water pump, clogged radiator. A good garage ought to be willing to give you an idea of what it is for little or no charge. That way you will know.

The rest of us are simply giving best guesses.

  6. Its the head gasket puntos are known for this problem a good garage should fix for 500 euro or if its old car it mite not be worth fixing as the head gasket can go again

  7. not  to  dear  should  cost  about  1 shilling,threppunce,3  farthings.  told  ya  preeettttty   cheeeeep

  8. it wont be much, less than £50- it sounds like the thermostat's gone, hope this helps x

  9. it all depends, if its only the thermostat and you know some one handy, around £10- £15, but if not it could cost you dearly, £40- £80. you don't say how old the car is.

  10. Depending on the problem.

The new thermostat costs a bout £5 sterling...if you fit it yourself it'll take very little time.

An airlock in the cooling system would theoretically cost as much as the time to bleed the system and refill it as necessary.

A blown or damaged Head Gasket would cost more as more work is involved.  To have a HG replaced, the head skimmed and new heads bolts I would pay a garage no more than £300....though it can range anywhere from £120 to £600 depending on the garage and the exact work involved.

The actual head gasket set costs about £40 off the internet, shop4parts website is best for that.  Head skim is usually about £30-40 depending on who does it.  That way if you are able to do the work yourself you could get off lightly.

Other problems i.e. water pump again vary depending on garage.

Could even be a blocked rad, although that's a long shot.
