I have a 1992 coin that I cannot distinguish but some characters appear Arabic. There is a man with wavy hair and a headband on one side and something like a sun on the other side surrounded by a circle. It says something like E _ _ HNIKH and the second word HMOKP _ TI with a triangle figure on each side of that word (at the top) and at the bottom all I can understand is B_ _ I _ E Y _ and the second word M_ K E _ O N _ N. Next to the 1992 written small is BEP_IN_. I am trying to figure out what this is called and how much it is worth in the U.S.

  1. The characters are not Arabic, but Greek. The coin in your possession is an obsolete 100 drachmes coin from Greece used prior to the adoption of physical Euro currency in 2002. "EΛΛHNIKH ΔHMOKPATIA" means "Democratic Republic of Greece", "MEΓAΣ AΛEΞANΔPOΣ BAΣIΛEYΣ MAKEΔONΩN" means "Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia" (that's his likeness depicted on the coin), "BEPΓINA" reads "Vergina" (referring to the Vergina sun or star of Vergina), and "100 ΔPAXMEΣ" means "100 Drachmes".

The coin is no longer legal tender, but valued at $1.50 in mint state among hobbyists. Expect $.50 if circulated.

  2. Do you mean how much is it worth.  It would be best if you took a picture so that people could see it and they probably would be able to assist you better.

  3. i can't answer your specific question

but i can tell you that currency exchanges don't tend to accept coins, at least not in my experience
