Does anyone know how often alligators are in the middle of lakes?

I always see people get off their boats and jet ski's into the middle of the lakes and I was wondering if there are ever gators out there.

  1. As if the water in the middle of a lake is too deep for them.

    Alligators go where they want, when they want. In the heat of the day, they're more likely to be towards the shoreline hanging out in the shade, but when an alligator's in a lake, it owns the lake... or the bigger one owns the lake if there's more than one.

    Here's our advantage. In the past 50 years here in Florida, alligators have been responsible for 25 human fatalities. Dogs kill more people than this every year in Florida _alone_. For the most part, alligators don't look at us as a food item... for the most part.
