Does anyone know how to build a box bed frame, low to floor and with high sides?

I need a twin bed that rests close to the floor because my nine-year old son is severely disabled and is at risk for climbing out of bed. The high sides will slow him down, and being close to the floor will reduce injury. Traditional side rails are not sufficient.

  1. I would use a design where you have a small box made out of 2x4 or 2x6 on the bottom.  Just make a square that is a little smaller than the actual size of the bed.  Then you can make a box out of 2x10 or 2x12 that will actually hold the bed.  It makes the illusion that the bed is floating, but it would give you a nice look with that low to the ground perspective you were looking for.

    Hope this helps....
