i'm biracial (black & white) and being that my mother is white, she cooks a lot of european influenced meals and american meals and i learned how to cook from her. but being that my fiance is dominican, i would like to try and cook him dominican meals like his mother. i've tried and tried but it never tastes like his moms! lol. This latin cuisine is new to me and i've been trying to duplicate his mothers food, but it always turns out too oily, too sticky, or too salty. Please help!!!

  1. simply buy some Goya brand Sofrito to add to the beans (usually kidney beans or just look for anything that says habichuelas)....this will help make a nice sauce. I like to use between a tsp. and a tbsp. per serving. platanos (plantains) are also a good idea. buy them when they are overly ripe, like turning brown. fry them in some oil (vegetable or canola) until they turn a nice shade of yellowish-brown. they will be very sweet, but I promise that dominicans love them and live off of them. buena suerte!
