Does anyone know how to fix the effect button on the remote of a projector?

i need to know how to leave the image on the big screen while i do other things on the computer screen.

Who needs an effect button for that?  

If you have a laptop, you can setup your desktop for Extended Desktop.  This will allow you to have different things on your monitor compared to your projector.

If you have a desktop and a video card with two ports, then you can run in extended desktop mode instead of clone mode.  This will split the desktop in half between your monitor and projector.
