Does anyone know how to get around a password log in for windows xp?

I recently got a computer from one of my friends, but to get onto the main screen the owner set up a password. I cant seem to figure it out, is there a way to get past it so i can log in and change it, like a default password?

Did you try just hitting Enter at the prompt?

If that doesn't work, you'll need the password.

If you friend can't provide it, your only other option is to wipe the computer and reinstall XP.
