  1. I know how to get from romeoville to downtown, if that helps at all.

You take the purple line to the red line, then the red line to any of the stops at the loop, like Chicago/Roosevelt/Harrison...

Fares are $2 when you start off, but if you're transferring to another train stop, then it won't take off any money, as long as it's within two hours.  If you transfer to a bus stop, it will take off only 25 cents, as long as it's within two hours.

I would suggest buying an all day pass from the currency exchange, which is only $5.  Seven-day passes are $20.

You can always look at http://www.transitchicago.com/ to figure out how exactly to get to the north avenue beach.  I went a few days ago but by car, so I didn't really see a train stop, or maybe I wasn't looking.

But yeah, it's best to go to that website to look at directions or to call the number on the site. :)

  2. Go to the website for the commuter trains.  www.metrarail.com is the website.  you can plan your trip this way with trip planner.  go to transit links and click on metra trip planner.
