Does anyone know how to get hire by a school to work as the school portrait photographer? ?

I'm mostly interested in children photography, where do I develop the digital photographs?

You have to work for a portrait studio that the school hires to do their class pictures. I've never heard of a school hiring a single person to take the photographs; they hire well known companies. I had a friend that worked for Glamourcraft, she said that was fun :]

they usually hire an outside company to do the pictures, at least i saw a job posting for this position once. The company does all the schools in the area in multiple districts. They probably have thier own developing equipment and take care of all thier business. You sound like you want to do everything. Nothing says you cannot compete with this company on your own or just get a job there. You can try to undercut thier price but being a loner they may worry about your ability to provide quality service to 5,000 children per school, 9 schools per district, 5 districts per county, and maybe two or three counties.

You can look at the folder a kid got his pictures in and it may tell you the name, phone number or address of the company that did this. You can then call or write and inquire about a job. With such large numbers i imagine you will either just travel and take the pictures or work in the office, developing or accounting, hr whatever. People at sears or the mall portrait studio mostly work with kids too if that is your motivation.

well you have to bid for the spot inmost school districts. if you bid is competitive they will most likely put you on their list of vendors.. keep in mind that school districts often times have a long history with their vendors and rarely give newbies work even if you do get on their list of vendors.

Normally schools hire out to photography agencies, not individuals. The company then develops the pictures and sends them out.
