An easy and cheap method is to collect a few jars, puncture small holes in the lids and place an inch of stale beer (I use Bud Lite due to the high sugar content), sweet sugar water, stale sugared soda, honey water, stale fruit juice etc inside the jar.  The flies will crawl inside the jar but won't be able to get back out.  You will be amazed at how many flies you'll see in the jars every morning!  You will have to replace the sugar water every day.

This is an organic method that will not harm plants or pets.

If you put distilled vinegar in the bottom of a bottle. Then create a funnel with some paper/cardboard. With the wide bit at the top insert into bottle, being careful not to let it reach the vinegar. The fruit flies will go in but be unable to come back out. It's brilliant!!!

Yes remove the attraction and you'll also be removing the breeding source/FOOD Then clean out your drains in the sink and garbage disposal. Don't overlook anything that could considered attractive to them.
