I am not sure which category this question would be best suited, but I will try here.

My daughter had a science teacher once that remarked that someone she knew used to microwave milk when it got close to the expiration date, then refrigerated it again and it stayed drinkable longer. We usually drink milk way before the date, but I just began wondering if anyone else did this?

  1. This is not a real procedure.  To kill any organisms in the milk to make it "drinkable" (kill micro-organisms) would mean microwaving the milk long enough to denature the proteins.  Microwaving for a short period of time would only heat it to a little above room temperature and this would not kill the organisms.

Other people might do this, but it makes more sense to just keep the milk at the proper temperature during storage and only remove it for the least amount of time necessary to pour it.
