Question:

Does anyone know how to mount 4-piece poster on a wall?

I have a poster that comes in 4 pieces. It is 8'4 long and 6' tall. I don't want to mount it in pieces right on the wall. I want to mount it on something and then mount that one single piece on the wall.

I don't know what I could put it on though. Wood? Paper?

Please give me some suggestions. 10Q

  1. tape the sections together and then is thumb tacks.

  2. That is a good question, plywood is 4x8 so that would not work in one piece. I think I would get some drywall (gypsum board), cut it and put it together then put your poster on that. You can get drywall sheets at Home Depot 16' long, so that would take care of the 8'4" length and you could add 2' to the side but I think it would look better if you had a 2" border around it, painted. So your piece of dry wall would be 8' 6"x6'2"'.

  3. This is a tough one. You can get plywood in 12' x 4' size, but you'd still have to cut and then join the pieces. But unless you use plywood of a reasonable thickness, it's going to get wavy-looking on the wall unless it has a frame to keep it straight, and then we're looking at some weight. I wonder if you can use that light corrugated plastic instead of plywood, I'm pretty sure they sell the plastic at Home Depot but don't know how big you can get it--4'x8' is the biggest I've seen. You might look in the phone book under plastics. That plastic is very easy to cut, and you could join it together with 1x4 and some screws and washers. I think that spray adhesive should hold a poster onto the plastic, but read labels carefully before buying one, and test-drive it before you use it. Plastic has the advantage of being a very smooth surface to put paper onto, and it won't warp as easily as wood will. If you make sure there's a 1x4 in the right place you could hang the thing on the wall like a giant picture with wire, s***w eyes and big picture hooks. Go to a picture framing place or an art gallery to see how they handle large canvases and maybe get some advice.
