Question:

Does anyone know how to relieve general anxiety by using natural alternatives?

I started geting mild anxiety or panic attacks about a year ago and since then they seem to be getting worse. I felt they were in control before but now I feel like they are getting stronger everyday. I don't like medications and hate anything that has chemicals in it. For the mear fact that they cause awful side effects and in turn give you other unrelated problems. I am looking for something I can do at home or on the spot as soon as I feel the anxiety or panic attack coming up. Any help would be greatly appreciated....thank you.

  1. Overcoming anxiety is no small task.

    It takes practice and a lot of hard work.

    I used to have panic attacks once a week

    due to my high anxiety, so I definitely feel

    for you. Fortunately, I can do a lot more

    for you than empathize.

    By utilizing the techiques below, I was slowly

    able to gain control over my anxiety and stop

    my panic attacks from occuring. If you

    exercise these techiques regularly, you too

    will see great improvements in anxiety,

    tension and stress.

    Breathing:

    As the anxiety creeps up, begin to count in

    your head. Count 1,2,3,4 -- 1,2,3,4 -- 1,2,3,4

    pausing on the dashes and so on.

    You're not going to actually say or

    even think the numbers. You're going

    to breath the numbers.

    Take a deep breath in through your

    nose for the 1 and 2. Then take a

    deep breath out through your mouth

    for the 3 and 4. Practice this routine

    for a few minutes a day until it

    becomes an automated exercise for you.

    Practicing really helps a lot.

    Practice in a controlled environment.

    I used to practice before bed. When

    panic does hit, this self-defense

    mechanism kicks in without effort.

    Control Your Thinking:

    When you have negative thoughts,

    negative things will come into your

    life. Conversely when you have positive

    thoughts, positive things will come

    into your life.

    That's because thoughts steer the

    direction of your life.

    The same holds true in moments of high

    anxiety. It's important during these

    times to monitor your thoughts and

    make sure you force calming ideas

    and images into your head.

    Nothing is really as bad as it seems and ten

    years from now,this particularly stressful

    situation won't exist - so control your

    thinking to avoid your mind from falling

    into a negative thought spiral.

    As soon as you have a negative thought,

    throw it out of your head and

    counterbalance yourself with a

    positive or optimistic thought.

    This is a hard one, but after

    you monitor your thoughts for

    a week or two, you begin to think

    more positive in general.

    These two tactics helped me a lot.

    Other helpful ideas are:

    - Participat in Therapy

    - Talk to someone you trust

    - Exercise (cardio works best)

    - Yoga

    - Stretching

    - Reading

    - Meditation

    - Take a hot shower

    - Go for a Walk

    - Listen to Music

  3. The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I don't know your age so I don't know if your anxiety is a result of hormonal changes, but I can tell you what helped me and I no longer have panic attacks. The stress of having a panic attack , hyperactivity in the brain, causes your brain to release norepinephrin which causes your pulse, blood pressure and breathing to become rapid and that can be frightening.

    Try taking a calcium/magnesium supplement daily, it's a natural tranquilizer. The thing that helped me the most when experiencing a panic attack was slow, controlled yogic breathing. Inhale slowly to the count of four,hold your breath for the count of four,exhale slowly to the count of four, then do nothing for the count of four. Remind yourself that the anxiety will soon subside and that you will be fine. Avoid anything with caffeine in it, including chocolate. Good luck!

  4. one thing that I use is something called "Rescue Remedy". I have been told that for children when they have a fit and just WONT CALM DOWN to drop some on their head and they will calm down. you just take a dropper full and put it under your tongue. The fact that it has 27% alcohol turns people off, but you only use a dropper full at a time and the alcohol is just there to help it get into your system faster. it is a little expensive, but it helps me so much. I have a breathing problem that gets WAY worse with anxiety and stress and rescue remedy helps me calm down most of the time. i swear by homeopathics and rescue remedy

  5. I do experience anxiety/panic and have realized that they are a symptom of unhandled stress...

    Definitely closing your eyes and taking some deep, natural breaths (breathing through your nose helps you breathe deep) is a good quick first start because stress causes rapid breathing and less oxygen to get to your cells.

    Finding something that you personally enjoy and doing that is really the best antidote, which was mentioned earlier.

    I know exactly how you fee. I refuse to take any man made medications because you just cant trust whats in them these days. I too have suffered with panic attacks for 9 years. When i first got them i thought they were uncontrolable. Eventually i started to figure out what it was that made them ease up a little. Basically i got so bad that i was having atleast one a day and for some reason couldnt sleep with the light off. Anyways when if elt one coming i would start to watch my favourite DVD. I know that sounds a bit simple/silly whatever but it really worked. I found something that really took my mind off it. Other ways were to talk to someone, not just small talk but have a real conversation. You could try talking with someone online or even write down how you are feeling. The msot important thing that i have found to be helpful though is to just tell your self a pannic attack is not life threatening, it is all in your head and you have the power to make it go away.

    1)Cognitive techniques (just Google it) - such as breathing exercises, mental conditioning, yoga, etc.

    2)Reduce or eliminate alcohol, caffeine, and sugar

    3)Try a natural 'herbal' antidepressant such as Panicyl

    4)Join support groups online to learn more and make friends

  8. Talking to someone,taking deep breaths,go for a walk,pray-GOD helped me so much in a time I dealt with panic-I still get it occasionally,but not as bad.There are some vitamins  that help-a good b-complex ,magnesium,and calcium are good for stress.GOD-bless
