  1. 1.  Car pooling

    2.  Ride a bike on nice days

    3.  Keep car in tune and tires inflated

    4.  Trade your car for one with better mileage

You'll need to provide additional details (your commute time, the kind of car you drive, etc) for me to come up with anything more concrete than that.

  2. The cheap answer is carpool, use public transportation or ride a bike.  If you absolutely have to drive, then stay under 60mph, and start off and stop slowly.  Rapid acceleration uses more gas.  I have also heard that keeping your car clean, and keeping the windows rolled up will keep your car more aerodynamic.

    Good timely question.

  3. drive faster, you'll get there quicker so you won't use as much gas!

  4. Well this one isn't as common but I work at Stop and Shop (I don't even know if they're in your area) but when you buy from there, when you spend over 50 dollars, you get a coupon that gives you 10 cents (I think 10 cents, maybe it's 30) off gas.

  5. Get a Ford Hybrid Escape.  Keep your speed under 55 MPH without AC or Heat.  No gasoline will be used.  That's what the salesman told me.

However, when you turn on the AC or Heat and drive 56 MPH your avg MPG will be 31.

  6. DOnt buy gas ever again. haha. ride your bike EVERYWHERE!!

  7. Carpool,   share the cost of gas and maintenance with others.  Chance for great conversation or for the ones not driving to read.

Public transportation.    Same principle and benefits as carpooling.

Walk  or  ride a bike,  if possible.    Great to help lose a couple pounds and uses no gas.

If you absolutely must drive,  even if carpooling,    long smooth slow acceleration uses less gas than punching the throttle.     Leaving a lot of following distance means less hard braking and needlessly scrubbing off your speed.   Also allows you to look far ahead and avoid having to make complete stops at lights.    (Takes less fuel to build speed back up from 15 mph than a dead stop,  no inertial to overcome  )    Speeds over 55-60  use exponentially more fuel as the vehicle now has to push more air out of the way.

    DRIVE SMART --  NOT FAST
