Question:

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between anovulatory bleeding and a true period?

The reason I ask is because I am just a few months off the pill. Today I got my period, or so I think. I am temping and about 16 days ago I did get some high temps, but they went down about a week ago, so I wasn't sure if I ovulated or not because I thought temps were supposed to stay up until your period. My b*****s have been sore for the past few days and I just have mild cramping. Do you think this is anovulatory spotting or a true period? Anyone know how to tell the difference?

  1. I had the exact same personal experience as Diana.  No symptoms when I have had anovulatory cycles.  That's how I could always tell.  I quit the pill last year and I get pms symptoms that aren't as strong as they were before I ever was on the pill, but I still get them 10 days before I start.  You probably had some type of ovulation (weak &or strong) if you are feeling pms affects.  Good Luck with everything!! :o)

  2. Weather you have your period or an anovulatory cycle, when your uterus sheds it linning its basically the same, you will still pass clots and tissue.

From my personal experience, when i had an anovulatory cycle i didn't have any PMS symptoms at all. No cramping or anything, i just started to bleed. (i didn't have a period for nearly 2 months)

  3. To my knowledge and prior experience, there is no way of telling the difference.  I'm sorry, I just don't know.  If you have had more than one temp that is lower, chances are that your period is on it's way or that you might even miss a cycle if you don't start.  After coming of of BC, your periods can be all out of whack for a while.  Good luck!
