I need to know how the train works. I want to get to the airport in Frankfurt from Benjamin Franklin Villaga otherwise known as Sullivan Barracks in Mannheim.

  1. The train workers are on occasional strike these days, so just try your luck. The German Bahn has an online schedule at www.bahn.de; use their search engine. There is an ICE that takes 32 to 37 minutes and costs around 20 Euros, one way, from Mannheim Hauptbahnhof to Frankfurt Airport. It commutes every two hours.

  2. The Deutsche Bahn having some strikes going on right now, but check on the web www.bahn.de.

Between Mannheim and Frankfurt driving the ICE trains or RB Regionalbahns.

  3. Hi! I live here in Mannheim on BFV. I use the trains all the time to get to Frankfurt Airport.

What you need to do is take the 5R to Mannheim Hauptbahnhof. This is approxiametly a 30 minute ride.

At the Bahnhof you walk straight through the main entrance and make a left turn. There will be about 6 to 8 large stands. You will be able to purchase tickets to the Frankfurt Airport. My suggestion is to take the ICE train. It is approxiametly 30 minutes and costs anywhere from 20 to 25 euro. If you have a Bahn card you will save depending on what type.

As for strikes, yes the german rail is on strike right now, however, I rode the ICE to FRA yesterday and had no issues.

As for a chartered bus, you can research that at the Mannheim Hauptbahnhof. Otherwise you will need to train it there.

There are no military "free" buses from Mannheim to FRA airport anymore. You will have to find your own way.

Its very easy, and if you run into issues you can talk to the Ponds guards there at the Freundshaft Circle or at the Bahnhof..They all speak English. Hope this helps :)

  4. The train does indeed run at the bottom of the terminal. There are information booths (automatic and people managed) as well. You can order the ticket online or pay at the booth.

Another option is to catch a shuttle service from the airport to Heideleberg and figure it out from there -or ask if they can take you directly to Mannheim for an extra charge. There is a weblink: http://www.tls-heidelberg.de/index2engl....

    (English)

You can order service online and choose to pay in person. The driver will meet you at the treffpunkt (meeting point) and any worker can direct you to the spot.

Check out the website for more info. I do believe they service outside. If not, you can ask for a referral to a company that does. A "real" taxi at the airport is too much. I checked it out once. A shuttle service is more affordable. Believe me door to door is nice. Good luck.
