Does anyone know if Bobby Jones ever used a golf tee prior to his retirement? (not the sand and water or dirt and water method that was used back then to build a tee). He retired in 1930 and after that only played in The Masters and exhibitions. I'm almost sure he used wooden tees during The Masters in the1940's, but I was wondering if he used them in any Majors or tourneys before retirement in 1930? Thanks.

  1. The Reddy Tee was in widespread use by the mid 1920s (it was patented in 1922) , thanks to its promotion by Walter Hagen. It's likely that he used wooden tees.

  2. Pretty sure he did.  I don't recall when the wooden tee became commonplace, but am pretty sure it was well before he retired.

  3. This question brings to mind the issue of better equipment. If Jones, Hogan or Snead  et al had todays equipment would they have been unbeatable?
