I was in bible study one night and the teacher mention that Goliath who David killed in 1 Samuel 17:50 was a descent of Orpah one Naomi's daughter-laws in the Book of Ruth. I can not find any information about this. Please Help!

  1. I read the Tanakh alot and can agree, that it probably does not say that.  Orpah was married to the brother of the first husband of Ruth (first  that we know about).  After that guy died she appears to return or stay in the "fields of Moab." She could have then married someone else and had kids with someone else, since it doesn't appear to be any child mentioned in this Jewish marriage..

I am starting a search to check.

Goliath was a Philistine - not the same thing, although mixed ancestry could be possible.

However there are multitudinous traditions such as Talmud, Targums, etc.  Sometimes people quote these.  I don't know if it is in there.  Even if it is, I would take it with a grain of salt.  These are stories from the Middle Ages.  From rabbis though, but you might want to read more of them before assuming they must be reliable just cause they're Jewish.
