I know it sounds mean, but she steals from me and family, lies, is disrespectful etc....I have to do some tough love. She doesn't think or believe I can legally make her leave my house at 18 (she's 17 now so I'm stuck). Someone told me they thought if she was still in school at 18 then I couldn't. Does anyone know? Please, I need to find out.

  1. I do not know about Ohio but in Georgia you can make them leave at 18 as long as you give them i believe it's 30 days notice. If i were you i would make sure I've taken every possible measure of action before using this method. Have you tried counseling? I understand that she is giving you a very difficult time but remember she is only 17 so she still has to abide by your rules. Get the police involved if you have to. Get everyone close to her involved, even her friends if they are decent people. Don't be afraid to ask others for help and advice you may be surprised at how this helps......but if all else fails then tough love her....she will come around.

  2. Call the police or child services NOW. She can get in trouble for stealing from you NOW. It's not legal for her to steal from anybody at any age.

And depending on what else she's doing maybe you can have her sent to foster care, and then you don't have to let her back in your house after she turns 18.

I live in Pennsylvania, and I know state laws may differ, I don't even know them all for PA.

But like I said, make some phone calls, if she sees you doing that, maybe she'll straighten up.

  3. You need to check with your County Attorney, but once she is 18, whether she is in school or not, she is an adult and you don't have to keep her around.

  4. im not a mom yet so I dont know what It must feel like to have something like this happen

but my younger sister was out of control ... she ran away ... stole bottles of alcohol and she almost killed a man to steal his truck ... thankfully the sherif drove by at that moment and their plan was foiled

My mom had her hands full ... at every moment my sister would try to kill herself... she even stuck a needle into her throat to inject air in to her vein ... she was messed up!!!

By order of the Sherif my sister had to go live in a psychiatric home for a week...

The thing is my mom didnt give up on her ... she did anything she could even paying me to take her to my sisters school and we would spy on her during lunch time to make sure she was keeping out of trouble ... My mom had a horrible life with my sister! but once my sister figired out my mom wasnt going to give up she straightned out and met a boy at school ... when they graduated they got married and have been happy ever since then ... they are still not ready for a baby yet which means they are being responsible ...

Okay so the moral of this story it would be easy to kick her out but she wont learn anything ... you will only make her more angry and rebelious ... she will be homeless and what is she to do for money ... become a prositite?

would you feel good sleeping in bed thinking that your girl is somewhere under a freeway getting raped or killed?

    You wont sleep easy ...

instead be firm ... call the police when she steals from you ... ground her! put bars on her window so she wont sneek out ... the thing is dont just threaten her and not follow through ...

My mom took my sisters door away so she could keep an eye on what she is doing at all times ...

  5. yes you can

  6. Consult a lawyer..  I dont know if you can force her out since she's in school...

but legally she is an adult tho..  you would have to actually go to the court house and file an eviction and give her 30 days to leave tho.

  7. Yes, mam you can legally make your daughter move out of your house! I live in Ohio, I was able to do the same anout my 17 yr.old, because he stole from as well, [this is where the tough love came into it at], I pressed charges on my son, because he stole alot from me, and the law said I could make him get out of my house w/without the charges! so,yes mam, when she 18yrs.old you can, and if I'm not badly mistaken you can do the same to your daughter!Good Luck!

  8. you tell her to leave. if she doesn't leave, you go to a courthouse and get an order.

i don't think this may be the answer to helping your daughter change.  its a good way to protect the smaller ones and your assets.  in order to help your daughter i say enter her into a program.  she doesn't have to live with you.

  9. once your child reached 18 in school or not you aren't legally obligated too provide support of any kind. You have to go to the court house and file an eviction notice and serve it, after which if the person still hasn't left the property you both go to court and at that time the judge will hear the case and give the defendant a certain amount of time to vacate the premises. How much time is granted varies from state to state. If she's stealing from you call the pigs and press charges.

  10. wait!  take advantage of the fact that she's underage and send her to a bootcamp!

Orrrr, when she is 18, let her know that 1) you CAN kick her out, and 2) you can file a police report on her if she steals.

  11. Im in Ohio and you CAN kick her out when she turns 18. She is a legal adult then and if she doesnt leave you can call the police and they can escort her away if you really had too.

  12. Yes, at 18 you can legally kick her out as she is now legally an adult and responsible for herself. Plus, you need to threaten her with calling the cops when she steals from you. That's not acceptable behavior and needs a better punishment than what you're giving. Have them keep her in jail for a night or two, that might make her a little more respectable.

  13. Yes you can.

It might not even need to come to that though.  My friend's parents showed my friend's older brother some tough love and he shaped up his act right away.

  14. EDIT: ^ Yea what she said ^

As far as I know when they turn 18 you can boot to the @ss at any time you want.

Steals? s***w that, Lock her @ss up GOOD BYE have fun in Juvie
