Does anyone know if I can use an AMEX gift card to purchase an airline ticket online?

I just got an Amex gift card for a hefty amount and was wondering if anyone knew if it were ok to purchase airline tickets online with it? I know when you check in at the airport, you don't necessarily need the credit card you used to purchase the tickets with and a driver's license and confirmation number is sufficient.

Be aware of one thing however, unlike a credit card, a gift card does not carry the same protections in case of flight problems (bankruptcy for example).  If you are flying on a major airline in ok shape, it should not be an issue...

Your correct, it is completely fine, all you need is the conformation that is sent to your e-mail, and a valid government issued ID (for domestic travel), or a passport (international travel).
