Question:

Does anyone know if Jordan still requires the military "flag service" booklet at the airport?

I had this green "flag service" booklet ("Khidmat Al-Alam") issued before I left Jordan for college in the U.S. in 2004, and now that i am going back to visit, I'm concerned that this expired booklet is going to be an issue at the airport the day I leave.

Anyone know how important it is to have one at the airport? Mine says "postponed until August 2006"! I did hear they were canceling that program though...

What do I need to do to ensure safe departure back to the U.S.?

  1. As far as we know it is still requested to leave Jordan. If you are a Jordanian National male your required to register. All you will have to do is bring the green book with you when you come to Jordan and go to the nearest National Army office and they should be able to validate you for 5 years. Luckily Jordan is a peaceful country and is not at war with any other country. As a Jordanian you are required to also register with the Embassy in Washington D.C. if you stay out of Jordan for a certain period of time. Our friend just left Jordan on a immigrant visa and it was required of him.

My husbands expired for a year and had no problem. So, just bring your passport with you showing that you had been in school in a different country.
